The race for the cheapest 5G smartphone for any manufacturer on the market has turned into something of an oddity. For Samsung, that mid-range phone was the Galaxy A32 5G, which was launched alongside the A52 5G and A72 5G. But now the title has officially been transferred to the Galaxy A22 5G.

The A12 is is an entry-level phone designed to offer the Samsung experience on a budget. It’s not the most affordable phone Samsung sells, and the Galaxy M02 takes that title. Samsung’s nomenclature is a bit vague at the low end and can be confusing between the A and M series, but the A12 sits below the M12 and above the M02s. But what is the difference between Samsung A12 and A22, two affordable Samsung phones?

What Is the Difference Between Samsung A12 and A22?

Samsung A12 vs Samsung A22 – Screen

The Galaxy A22’s display isn’t that impressive on paper. However, it’s worth noting that the regular A22 comes with an HD+ display. The A22 offers a good resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, which comes with a density of about 399 pixels per inch. The Galaxy A12 is one of the few phones in the Samsung product line that does not use an OLED screen. This is a PLS panel or Samsung’s take on IPS LCD. A resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels is not very good at this size. Therefore, the difference between the A12 and the A22 in this department is that the A22 has a higher screen resolution.

The colors of the Galaxy A22 screen are not very accurate. Samsung targets the sRGB color space, but its color accuracy is rather poor. Greens and especially blues are poorly displayed. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the color either. Just like many of Samsung’s budget models, the A22 lacks precise color settings. Galaxy A12 has no color mode. What it offers is a screen that can partially reproduce the sRGB color space. Additionally, Samsung Galaxy A22 offers a 90 Hz refresh rate while the Samsung Galaxy A12 has a 60 Hz refresh rate.

Samsung A12 vs Samsung A22 – Battery

There is no difference between A22 and A12 in terms of battery. The Galaxy A22 5G boasts a powerful 5000 mAh battery. It is also relatively thick with a size of 9 mm. The Galaxy A12 is also powered by a 5000 mAh battery and offers enough capacity for its relatively average hardware. The difference between A22 and A12 is imperceptible here and they are very similar. For charging, both phones come with the original Samsung phone charger, which is 15W. These two phones offer the slowest charging speeds compared to their competitors and their performance is not that impressive in that regard.

Summing Up

What is the difference between Samsung A12 and A22? Samsung has built a strong phone in the Galaxy A22 5G. Its FullHD, 90Hz LCD display isn’t impressive in terms of performance, but it’s still pretty good in this price range. In fact, most of the One UI 3.1/Android 11 elements on the Galaxy A22 5G are well-built and surprisingly feature-rich. With all that said, a great user experience is a big part of the appeal of Samsung’s cheapest 5G phone. The A12 also offers an acceptable performance in its price range.
